Marlon Vera Vs. Dominick Cruz 

This Saturday night’s UFC main event was an insane smash to the face. Marlon Vera went up against Dominick Cruz in an adrenaline-pumped UFC Fight Night PPV main event. The result was a brutal four rounds of gut-punching combat, ending with Cruz’s face getting kicked in.  

August 13th marks one of the most brutal UFC fights in Bantamweight history, as Marlon Vera gave us a showstopper. The confident mixed martial artist was training hard for this encounter, even though he knew he’d come out on top. He’s always going up against all these stronger and more aggressive guys trying to take him down. But in the end, Marlon Vera always comes out on top with some serious moves at the right moments.  

His recent fight with Rob Font demonstrated how deadly his well-timed kicks could be. His epic knockdown against Rob Font in the fourth round was something so smooth and yet so disturbing to watch. Font had no idea where that kick to the face came from; he was NOT expecting that.  

Next thing we know, Font sees stars as he loses his balance and back steps down his back. That kick was just a few marks short of a brutal and electrifying TKO. In the end, Vera scored a total of 3 knockdowns against Rob Font, an impressive feat by the 29-year-old bantamweight.  

Marlon Vera Vs. Dominick Cruz; The fight that changed it all 

Until now, Dominick Cruz had remained a dangerous force in UFC with an impressive 24-4-0 record. They don’t call him the Dominator for nothing; Cruz is one of the most feared fighters in his division. When he steps into the octagon, he pummels his opponents into a beatdown.  

He tried to use the same tactics on Vera, but little did he know that Vera had something else up his sleeve. Vera’s defense is perhaps one of the best we’ve seen, and he proved that fact right in this fight. Cruz did score some takedowns early on, and it even looked like things were going his way. But throughout the onslaught, Vera kept his defense intact without succumbing to Cruz’s scare tactics.  

No matter how hard the Dominator tried to get Vera under his grasp, he would always swerve away eventually. Cruz tried really hard to end him with a takedown and pummel away, but Vera withstood it. Because of this flexible defense technique, Cruz could never stay on him long enough to land some significant damage. 

If we look at the scoreboards, Cruz was winning on paper. Statistically, the Dominator did reign in more blows and moves against Vera. So naturally, both the crowd and the judges predicted a win for Cruz. In fact, he even won 2 out of the 3 rounds in the match. But all that was going to change real soon.  

The Dominator gets knocked out 

Trouble started brewing for Cruz in the fourth round; he had already spent most of his energy by this point. This gave Vera plenty of openings to exploit, and that’s exactly what he did.  

Vera came back this round with a massive string of attacks that made Cruz occasionally lose his balance. He had been keeping an eye on Cruz’s head movements, waiting until he saw any signs of weakness. Finally, the moment he’d been waiting for had arrived at last.  

The timer was at 2:48 in the fourth round. Cruz was already looking like a tired bull, unable to dodge at the right time. That’s when Vera knew he had to hit him with something big.  

Vera observed his opponent’s body language and carefully moved into close range. He made it look like he was going in for a right hook; this made Cruz try to dodge his move. Cruz naturally moved his head away, but he crouched his body too much for a feigned attack, exposing his head. BAM! In comes Vera with a brutal kick to the face, burying Cruz’s nose into his brain. 

When the timer hit 2:47, Cruz was already on the ground, unable to move. Vera went in and finished him off. The ref called it; Marlon Vera wins the match by TKO. Truly a fight for the ages.
