Morocco Vs. Croatia

The 2022 FIFA World Cup is almost coming to an end, and what an exciting tournament it has been so far. Only two teams remain now, France and Argentina, who will be battling it out on December 18th. But before that, there are some unfinished scores left to settle.

Morocco and Croatia will compete to win the third-place spot in 2022’s World Cup. It is a prestigious position, and both teams must do their best to win it.

The highly anticipated match will be held on December 17th at the Khalifa International Stadium in Al Rayyan. This will be an amazing second clash between the two teams, only this time; it won’t result in a draw.

World Cup Qatar: Quick Recap

This has been a World Cup full of surprises and shockers, comebacks and breakthroughs, and it has been outstanding all the way. Only two matches remain now, and the first will determine who takes up the third position in this year’s world cup tournament.

But before we talk about the third-place playoffs, let’s recap the adrenaline-pumping quarter and semi-final matches, all of which were no less than sensational.

FIFA World Cup: Quarter Finals

Croatia Vs. Brazil

Croatia and Brazil met in the world cup twice, and the South American nation came out as the victor both times. Many expected to see a repeat of history, but destiny had something else in store for them.

Neither team could score at the end of the 90-minute mark, so the game went into overtime. Then, an exhilarating goal by Neymar gives Brazil the one-up in the 106th minute. But Croatia came back almost immediately when Bruno Petković scored the equalizer in the 117th minute; what a comeback.

The game came down to a penalty shootout, and Croatia shockingly got the best out of the exchange. They scored 4 goals, compared to Brazil’s 2, making this the first time Croatia defeated the South American Giants in the World Cup.

Argentina Vs. Netherlands

Argentina had a shaky start, but they’ve pulled through and are set to meet France for the finals. But before that, they had to deal with the Netherlands in the Quarterfinals.

Nahuel Molina was the man of the hour when he scored the first goal in the 35th minute, putting Argentina in the lead. Then, Lionel Messi picked up a penalty granted to Argentina and scored wonderfully, giving his team a 2 goal lead.

But the Dutch weren’t giving up so easily; Wout Weghorst became immortalized with his two back-to-back goals, equalizing the score for the Netherlands. However, as the game went into penalty shootouts, Argentina got the better of the exchange, scoring 4 goals, compared to the Netherlands’ 3.

Morocco Vs. Portugal

It was another shocker for football fans, most of whom predicted an easy win for Portugal. However, Morocco showed the world their impeccable skill on the field, as they did more than simply ‘keep-up’ with their opponents.

Ronaldo exits the world cup in tears Youssef En-Nesyri was the hero of the day as he delivered a towering header in the 42nd minute. The ball slipped past the goalkeeper and found its way inside the net. For the first time in history, Morocco had gotten a lead over Portugal and maintained it throughout the match, ultimately winning this quarter-final bout.

England Vs. France

The three lions team suffered an early hit as Aurélien Tchouaméni bamboozled them with a sudden goal in the 17th minute. The English team wasn’t expecting this and struggled to score the equalizer. It finally came in the 54th minute when England received a penalty shoot. Harry Kane was the man picked for the job, and he beautifully scored a goal, putting England back in the game.

However, the French came at them, guns blazing, and Olivier Giroud scored one in the 78th minute. France reinforced their lead until the end of the match, becoming the victors.

FIFA World Cup: Semi Finals

Argentina Vs. Croatia

Argentina dominated Croatia 3-0, eliminating them in the semi-finals. The penalty kick in the 34th minute allowed Messi to score the lead; Croatia tried to equalize but to no avail.

Messi and Alvarez celebrate win against Croatia

Julian Alvarez came into the spotlight and scored two back-to-back goals for Argentina, one in the 39th minute and one during the second half, in the 69th minute. It was a big win for Argentina, and they secured their spot in the finals.

France Vs. Morocco

Morocco did so well throughout the tournament but was eventually knocked off by France. Theo Hernandez kicked things off by scoring a goal within the first 5 minutes, probably the quickest goal this World Cup.

Randal Kolo Muani hit Morocco with another goal in the 79th minute, securing a two-goal lead for France. The Moroccans couldn’t turn the tide and succumbed to a loss, with France moving on to the finals.

Morocco Vs. Croatia: Game Prediction

Both teams have achieved more than they have in any previous World Cup, which is an impressive feat in itself. It’s difficult to say which one of these underdogs will get the win, but our bet is on Croatia.

Morocco has definitely surprised us throughout and has been a breakthrough team this year. However, they aren’t as experienced as the Croatians, who are veterans of several World Cups. This superior experience will surely come in handy during the next game and overwhelm Morocco’s tenacity.

Croatia Vs. Morocco

On the other hand, we might just be in for yet another one of Morocco’s surprises, but they will have to tackle Croatia’s powerful defense, which might be too much for the Moroccan offensive. Neither team scored against the other in their last match, which resulted in a draw. If that happens again and the game comes down to penalty shootouts, Croatia might have a better chance of winning.
