It was a very tough contest for most of the game, but the Dutch came out as winners in the end, with goals from Cody Gakpo in the 84th minute and Davy Klassen in added time. Senegal was a strong opponent, but they were missing Sadio Mane, their main star, who pulled out of the tournament due to injury.

The possession was almost even between Senegal and the Netherlands. Senegal had 15 shots, with 4 on target, but wasn’t able to score a goal. On the other hand, the Netherlands had 15 shots with 3 on target, but they scored two goals to win the game.

The Dutch faced the Ecuadorians in their second game, which ended in a draw. The Dutch were unable to cope with the pressure mounted on them by the Ecuadorians. Led by their talisman Enner Valencia, the South Americans registered 15 shots, with 4 on target.

On the other hand, the Dutch were able to register only two shots in the entire game. Out of those two shots, they converted one in the 6th minute. The early goal might have played a part in Netherlands’ decision to park the bus.

Enner Valencia equalized for Ecuador 4 minutes after the start of the second half. However, the game finished 1-1, with both teams settling for a draw.

The third group-stage match was against Qatar, the host country of the FIFA World Cup 2022. Though the hosts were already out of the World Cup by the end of the second game, the Qataris were out to play for their flag.

The Dutch started the game with good intensity, and they controlled possession. The Qataris hardly got opportunities to take the ball to the opposition’s half. The Dutch struck first in the 26th minute of the first half through their top-scorer, Cody Gakpo.

Frenkie De Jong scored in the 49th minute of the second half to double the lead, sending the Qataris packing. The game was over when the second goal went in, and the Qataris could not score a goal, even as a consolation.

The United States has been growing for the past ten years, with a crop of players playing in top European clubs. Gone are the days when the United States was looked at as minnows. They were the first team to qualify for the Round of 16, followed by England.

Timothy Weah scored the first goal of the tournament for the United States in the 36th minute from a Christian Pulisic assist.

Their second game was against England, but it only ended up in a draw. The US controlled the entire game and created lots of chances but was unable to score a winning goal. They schooled England in their second game and gave Gareth Southgate something to think about.

The English players looked like they were not up for the fight, as the US players bullied them in every area of the field. They registered 10 shots, with only one being on target.

The USA had to win their final game against Iran to qualify for the Round of 16. However, beating Iran looked tough ask, mainly because they defeated Wales in their second game.

However, Captain America (Christian Pulisic) came to the rescue by scoring an audacious goal in the 36th minute. He was adjudged as the man of the match, helping the USA get through to the next round.
