Steelers vs. Bengals, Can Pittsburgh Defeat Cincinnati This Year?

September 11 marks the second day of the NFL regular season and will showcase nine exciting matchups to kick things off. The most thrilling of these matchups is the game between long-time AFC North Division rivals, the Steelers and the Bengals.

Steelers VS Bengals, September 11

The Pittsburgh Steelers will travel to Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio, the home turf of the Bengals. They are gunning for the win this time and are not interested in having a repeat of last year’s loss. On the other hand, the Bengals are somewhat confident they will come out on top. What a way to kickstart the season; Who will take the victory this Sunday?

Which Team Won The Last Game?

The last time these two teams faced off against each other was back in November 2021. The Bengals scored a historic win over the Steelers, making it their third back-to-back win against their divisional rivals.

The match took a turn when Cincinnati’s Mike Hilton intercepted Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger, which put the Bengals in a 31-3 lead. The team scored big on their initial four drives, putting them ahead of their opponents mentally and physically.

Steelers lost to the Bengals last year

Mike Hilton once again showed his prowess on the field when he faced off against Pittsburgh’s James Washington. Hilton successfully jumped Washington’s route and then ran back 24 yards to secure a massive touchdown with only 30 seconds left on the clock. The move came out of the blue and sent shockwaves across the stadium.

The final score was 41-10, a massive win for the Bengals, who had struggled to match up to the Steelers on several occasions. This would be the breakthrough moment when the Steelers lost their hold over the AFC North Division.

How Will Pittsburgh Do In The Next Game?

After suffering massive defeats at the hands of the Bengals, the Steelers are looking to up their game and make a significant comeback. Experts predict they’ll have to make monumental improvements in their offensive game.

Kenny Pickett still doesn’t seem ready to make some gains, so everyone will have to rely on Mitchell Trubisky at the moment. The 28-year-old quarterback will either be the match’s savior or the reason for Pittsburgh’s weak offensive game. Only time will tell how things will work out for the team.

Steelers running back, Najee Harris

Another player to watch out for is Najee Harris, Pittsburgh’s young talent hoping to make his mark against the Bengals this Sunday. Najee Harris is a crowd favorite with a record of seven rushing touchdowns so far. His passing attack is terrific, having caught 74 balls on 94 targets for 467 yards and scoring three touchdowns.

Chase Claypool is another player whose passing attack was critical for the team last year. The wide receiver made 59 catches for 860 yards and scored two touchdowns. If Claypool and Harris can work their magic this upcoming game, the Steelers might just have an offensive line that can do some significant damage.

Regarding Pittsburgh’s defense, T.J. watt stands tall with 22.5 sacks and 64 tackles in the last 15 games. Similarly, Cameron Heyward scored 10 sacks to go with 15 TFL and 89 massive tackles, with one major interception.

On the other hand, Minkah Fitzpatrick also helped boost the team’s defense. The 25-year-old got 124 tackles in and defended a total of seven passes in the 16 games he played. Another important defensive player is Alex Highsmith, who has 74 tackles, six sacks, and 15 TFL to his name.

How Will Cincinnati Do In The Next Game?

Cincinnati is confident about going up against Pittsburgh’s starting quarterback, Mitchell Trubisky. As it is, Pittsburgh’s offensive line is fragile and can’t hope to do much against Cincinnati’s receivers. Everyone knows that Cincinnati will take the field with their superior receivers if it comes to a shootout. Whether or not Pittsburgh has a strategy to tackle this is quite unclear.

The man of the hour on Cincinnati’s side is Joe Burrow, who averaged 8.9 passing yards per attempt. The 25-year-old quarterback completed 70.4% of his passes and has a record of 4,661 yards. He is a beast on the field, with a track record of 34 touchdowns and 14 massive interceptions in his last 16 games. Moreover, he also rushed for two touchdowns and 118 yards.

Next in line is Joe Mixon, who has had 42 catches for 314 yards overall and also three receiving touchdowns. He secured 14 rushing touchdowns so far, with 1,205 rushing yards in total. Mixon’s average is 75.3 yards per game and 4.1 per attempt.

Ja’Marr Chase had an impressive 81 catches for 1,455 yards in the 17 games he played last season. He also secured 13 receiving touchdowns so far, an impressive feat. Tee Higgins followed suit with 74 catches for 1,091 yards with six receiving touchdowns.

Trey Hendrickson impressed fans on the defensive line with 34 tackles, 14 sacks, and 12 TFL last year. Logan Wilson also performed well, securing one sack, 100 tackles, and four well-timed interceptions. Von Bell secured 97 tackles and one successful interception in his last 16 games. Having these three lead the defensive line will put up a solid front against Pittsburgh attackers.

Our Predictions For The Upcoming Game

Things could be looking up for the Steelers if they figure out their strengths in their offensive game. Last year’s meager score of ten points is something they definitely want to avoid this time. A lot is riding on quarterback Trubisky to take charge of the offense and get some points early on. Getting the lead is crucial for Pittsburgh, as it would be a great morale booster for the team.

Bengal’s James Burrow will lead the offensive but might struggle against Pittsburgh’s solid defensive line. However, if the Bengals do manage to strike first, they will have stunned their opponents and weakened their defense. After that, it’s only a matter of keeping the pressure on and maintaining their lead.
