UFC Vegas 62 : Alexa Grasso Vs. Viviane Araujo

UFC had one of the most explosive episodes this Saturday night, presenting a string of fight cards that kept fans on the edge of their seats. The most interesting of these matches came from the main event, which displayed exceptional skill from two of the best fighters in the UFC women’s flyweight division.

Alexa Grasso Vs. Viviane Araujo

Alexa Grasso faced Viviane Araujo in a brutal 5 round competition that sent shockwaves throughout the arena. Fists and legs collided with bones and skin as fans witnessed some of the most action-packed moments in UFC history.

The Mexican Warrior: Alexa Grasso

Hailing from Guadalajara, Mexico, the 29-year-old martial artist has displayed exceptional skill and a stone-cold drive for victory. Her first UFC match was against Heather Jo Clark, whom she easily defeated after three rounds. Then, she faced and defeated the now-retired kickboxer and Muay Thai specialist, Felice Herrig.

Grasso then faced a difficult match against Iraqi-Canadian mixed martial artist Randa Markos, whom she narrowly beat by a split decision. Finally, Grasso clashed with Tatiana Suarez and Karolina Kowalkiewicz, securing back-to-back victories against both. This gave Alexa Grasso an undefeated streak of 5 victories and zero losses in the UFC.

Grasso’s first UFC defeat came at the hands of the current UFC women’s strawweight champion, Carla Esparza, a.k.a, the Cookie Monster. However, the ever-strong Alexa Grasso came back to win three back-to-back victories against Ji Yeon Kim, Maycee Barber, and Joanne Wood. Fans desperately wanted to see her streak undefeated streak get a 1 up, and it was quite likely they would witness that during her next match-up against Viviane Araujo.

The Brazilian Mixed Martial Artist: Viviane Araujo

Viviane Araujo currently holds the # 8 spot in the women’s flyweight rankings and is a force to reckon with in the ring. The Brazilian mixed martial artist was the formal Pancrase strawweight champion, which is no small feat.

Araujo’s early MMA career took off in Brazil and Japan, during which she became the formal Pancrase strawweight champion. Her UFC debut came with a match against Talita Bernardo, whom she knocked out in the third round, securing her first major UFC victory.

Then, she defeated Alexis Davis via judge’s decision after five grueling rounds of brutal action. Sadly, Viviane Araujo could not secure a third victory during her match with Jessica Eye, who defeated her after three rounds.

Araujo came back the next year to fight against Montana De La Rosa, whom she defeated by judge’s decision after three rounds. Then, another swift victory against Roxanne Modafferi gave her some much-needed momentum. However, she was defeated by Katlyn Chookagian, yet another defeat that stopped her from a three-win undefeated streak.

The Brazilian fighter returned in 2022 to rake on Andrea Lee, a match she deservedly won after three solid rounds. If she manages to win another victory in her next fight with Alexa Grasso, it will take her one step closer to achieving that streak she’s always wanted. However, something tells us that it won’t be an easy fight for Araujo.

Alexa Grasso Vs. Viviane Araujo

Round 1: An Explosive Start

The match started off with an impressive display of sharp and precise strike exchanges from both fighters. Araujo dominated the ring’s center, positioning herself in a defensive shell as Alexa carefully circled the outside, scanning for weak spots, and the perfect opportunity to strike.

Both fighters exchange a flurry of strikes

Alexa Grasso unleashed a fury of combinations, mixing quick, effective punches and a slash of well-timed kicks that took her opponent by surprise. On the other hand, Araujo was careful not to go toe-to-toe for the most part and tried using takedowns later in the round to break her opponent’s defensive stance. Both fighters showcased amazing agility and strength and were almost equal in skill.

Round 2: Araujo’s Takedowns Vs. Grasso’s Combos

The second round started with a bang, as both fighters charged each other and collided at the ring’s center. Punches and kicks were coming in from all directions as both fighters took the opportunity to let it rip on each other. Viviane Araujo got the better of this initial exchange when she grappled her opponent into a takedown, the first of the match, but definitely not the last.

Araujo had the best of Grasso for a while as she held her down and attempted to draw her into a submission move. However, Grasso soon escaped her clutch and got back on her feet. The Mexican warrior was soon throwing combos left, right, and center, landing a perfect set of strikes on her opponent until she was saved by the bell.

Last Three Rounds: Toe To Toe, Pound For Pound

The last three rounds saw Grasso continue the pressure with her impeccable strikes and deadly combos. By this point, it was clear to the crowd that Grasso was a much better striker than Araujo, who would often try to connect with a swift takedown.

Grasso kept up the pressure while carefully maintaining distance and circling around the ring. This series of guerrilla-like moves gave her the edge in the fight, quickly closing in with the strikes and then swiftly moving out of harm’s way.

Araujo didn’t back down, however, and kept up her guard, landing strikes and combos of her own. She attempted to take her opponent down onto the mat, but the quick and agile Grasso could defy her grapple moves, coming back for lethal strikes whenever she saw an opening.

After five deadly rounds, the judges made a unanimous decision in Grasso’s favor, who was declared the winner of the match. The final score was 50-45, 49-46, and 49-46.
