The crowd at madison square garden was roaring with anticipation on Saturday, 12th of November. Excitement and raw energy filled the air as the two fighters made their way to the octagon. Clearly, this would be a stunning match, but nothing could prepare us for what we were about to witness.

Israel Adesanya, Alex Pereira, pre-match event

Round 1

Alex, A.K.A, Poatan, takes the fight straight to his opponent with a front kick, but Adesanya swerves out of the way. The Last Style-bender throws his own kicks at the Brazilian mixed martial artist, but he returns fire. Both men start trading low kicks, firmly holding their ground, neither backing down from the fight.

Adesanya Vs. Pereira

Adesanya gets the better of this exchange when he counters one of Pereira’s low kicks with a nasty right hand. The Brazilian stumbles for a moment, and the crowd gets on edge. Poatan recovers and gets back into the fight. Adesanya now shows off his agility, dodging Pereira’s high kick and hitting him back with his own.

Pereira can’t match Adesanya’s groove, so he tries to close the distance; they clinch up. Poatan uses this opportunity to land some devastating body and knee shots. Adesanya breaks free and lands a powerful punch that stumbles Pereira. Adesanya quickly goes for another punch to Pereira’s face, but the sound of the bell saves the wobbly Brazilian. What a crazy first round; Israel, A.K.A, Izzy definitely wins this one.

Round 2

Poatan returns strong in the next round, grabbing the crowd’s energy. He stands his ground this time and lands some heavy blows on Izzy, who gives it back to him. The two seem almost evenly matched, getting hit and coming back to whack their opponent harder.

Pereira dominates the exchange with his brutal hard punches that send shockwaves with each hit; we can literally hear those smacks! Izzy uses his speed and technique to dodge those blows and quickly strike back wild kicks and jab combos. They clinch from time to time, but neither can use it to their advantage. The round ends with Poatan landing a wild kick to Adesanya and taking the Nigerian down. He has clearly evened the score in this round.

Round 3

Round 3 starts off cool, with both fighters trading high kicks. Adesanya wins the exchange with a heavy right, but Pereira returns fire. Izzy counters with a body lock and takes down the Brazilian, connecting some heavy punches from behind.

Pereira seems stuck; every time he tries to get on his feet, Adesanya takes him down again. He attempts a leg lock, but Adesanya blocks it off, retaining the top position. They eventually separate, and Adesanya lands a brutal axe kick right before the bell. The Last Stylbender wins another round in this exciting fight.

Round 4

Both fighters meet at the center of the octagon and trade several light kicks and punches. Poatan finally connects with a nice left strike to Adesanya’s face, who returns the favor and punches him back. Pereira tries to push Adesanya to the cage, but he fights back with strikes. Poatan overpowers him and pins him on the fence with some brutal punches and kicks.

They clinch up again, and Adesanya tries to go for a takedown, but it’s too weak. Periera responds with knee shots to the body, while Adesanya hits him back with a right hand. The Brazilian seems tired now but still clinches his opponent again. Adesanya connects a nasty elbow on Poatan, who hits back with a combination of punches. The bell goes off; it’s the end of round 4.

Round 5

Pereira starts off strong and hits Adesanya with some body shots; the Nigerian quickly steps back. Pereira is on the attack, forcing Adesanya to clinch up in defense. They break eventually, and Pereira checks a kick, making the champ trip and roll backward.

The Brazilian goes in for a follow-up punch, but it doesn’t do enough damage. Poatan tries again, this time getting a few clean, powerful shots in. Adesanya looks stunted; he’s clearly hurt; Pereira realizes this and closes in with more punches. The Nigerian tries to move away, but he’s stumbling; more shots from Pereira, and the ref steps in.

Lights out for Israel Adesanya!

The crowd goes crazy as the ref declares Alex Pereira the winner by TKO. Alex, Poatan, is crowned the new UFC middleweight champion after defeating Adesanya for the third time in the octagon. Roars echo through madison square garden as the crowd gives a mixed reaction to this turn of events.

Israel Adesanya’s Post-Match Statement

In the post-match conference, Adesanya claimed that Pereira invested a lot towards attacking his calves early on, and it worked. In an official statement, he went on to blame the loss on his leg sustaining damages. The match was definitely one of the most intense bouts this year, and we’re hoping for more.
